GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Celebrate an uncommon name from early Detroit motoring with golf balls inspired by Pungs-Finch Auto & Gas Engine. The company began building automobiles in 1904, alongside its established work in marine engines and boats. E. B. Finch’s designs included four-cylinder cars and the Finch Limited, while a 1905 factory fire delayed production. Finch left the following year, and the business gradually returned to its marine roots. Automobile production ended in 1910. For enthusiasts of early cars and overlooked industrial stories, Pungs-Finch offers a distinctive connection to the past.
Pungs-Finch automobiles were built in Detroit, Michigan, from 1904 to 1910 by a company whose factory primarily made marine gas engines and boats. Engineer E. B. Finch had built his first automobile in 1902. William A. Pungs, Finch’s father-in-law, had arranged the purchase of the Sintz Gas Engine Company for the Michigan Yacht and Power Company. Pungs later bought out partner O. J. Mulford, who left and established the Gray Marine Motor Company in 1905. The business took the name Pungs-Finch Auto and Gas Engine Company in 1904, and a car developed by Sintz became the basis for its first model, powered by a 14-horsepower twin-cylinder engine. In 1905, Finch-designed four-cylinder Model D and Model F cars followed. A factory fire that year damaged the marine-engine and boat-building operation and delayed production while the company rebuilt. Finch designed the advanced Finch Limited for 1906, but departed that year after an argument with Pungs and became a Chalmers dealer in Cleveland. Pungs-Finch continued cataloging cars through 1910, though its focus returned to marine engines and boat building. Production of the Model F ended in 1910. A Finch Limited discovered at a factory was restored in the 1950s; it is the only known surviving Pungs-Finch.
