Product Details & Size Guide

GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Mark the story of a Detroit name that moved from passenger cars to trucks with this Reliance Motor Car Company cuffed beanie. Reliance automobiles entered production in 1904, and the company added commercial trucks two years later. In February 1907, truck building became its sole focus; General Motors purchased Reliance in 1909, and the truck line evolved into the first GMC truck. A thoughtful pick for collectors drawn to early motoring and the history behind familiar automotive names.

Reliance automobiles were built in Detroit, Michigan, from 1904 to 1907 by the Reliance Automobile Manufacturing Company. Designed by E. O. Abbott and W. K. Ackerman, both formerly with Cadillac, the two-cylinder cars had 3.2-liter water-cooled engines, selective transmissions, and shaft drive. The company promoted its side-entrance tonneau as a first in the United States and dated production to 1903, although the article identifies 1904 as the start of manufacture and notes that Peerless and Orlo also introduced side-entrance bodies that year. A 1905 model used a King of Belgium tonneau body and cost $1,250. Under-capitalized, the company reorganized in 1904 as Reliance Motor Car Company, with Fred O. Paige taking charge shortly afterward. It added commercial trucks in 1906 and, from February 1907, made trucks only. Reliance sold its passenger-car production, which later became the Crescent automobile. General Motors purchased Reliance in 1909; the truck line evolved into the first GMC truck. Paige later left to build his own Paige automobile.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.

Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
