GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Celebrate the independent spirit of the neighborhood game shop with this Rhino Video Games Hoodie / Sweatshirt. Rhino began in Florida when demand for game rentals at Video Plus led Mike Vorce to open a dedicated store in Ocala in 1989. The business centered on buying, selling, and trading games and systems, eventually growing into a 54-store chain. Acquired first by Blockbuster and later by GameStop, Rhino’s stores were renamed in January 2007. The brand remains a tangible reminder of how local game retail evolved.
Rhino Video Games was an American retailer based in Gainesville, Florida, specializing in new and used video game software. Founder Mike Vorce opened movie-rental shop Video Plus in 1984, then added video game rentals after strong customer demand in 1988. In 1989, Vorce and early employee Bruce Ruckle opened Rhino’s first store in Ocala, Florida, on Silver Springs Boulevard. The shop focused exclusively on buying, selling, trading, and renting games and systems, an early specialty format in the southeastern United States. A Gainesville location followed in 1992, near the University of Florida. Vorce sold the remaining Video Plus stores in 1995 to focus on Rhino. In 1997, the chain ended rentals and concentrated on game trading. Expansion accelerated from 2000, when Rhino opened its first store outside Florida, in Hinesville, Georgia. The company established Gainesville corporate offices in 2001 and a neighboring distribution center in 2002; by 2003 it operated 35 stores. On May 17, 2004, Blockbuster acquired Rhino’s assets. Vorce and his team continued managing daily operations. Rhino then had 54 stores in nine states and more than 400 employees. GameStop acquired the business on January 4, 2007, and the stores were renamed by January 14.
