Rider-Lewis Motor Car Company Youth Hoodie / Sweatshirt
Product Details & Size Guide
Give young car fans a wearable connection to Rider-Lewis and the early days of Indiana automobile making. The company began in 1908, introduced its car at the Indianapolis Motor Show, and shifted production from Muncie to Anderson. Its short run included the six-cylinder Excellent Six and four-cylinder Model Four before the plant was sold in 1911. This youth hoodie or sweatshirt brings a little regional automotive history to school days, family outings, and visits to classic car events.
Rider-Lewis automobiles were built in Indiana from 1908 to 1911. Ralph Lewis of Boston designed a six-cylinder engine with overhead valves and an overhead cam, rated at 40/45 horsepower. George D. Rider financed manufacturing, and the Rider-Lewis Motor Car Company was established to produce the cars. The company introduced its automobile at the Indianapolis Motor Show in March 1908, priced at $2,500. Production began in a converted factory in Muncie. In 1909, operations moved to a newly built factory in Anderson. For 1910, the six-cylinder Excellent Six was joined by the four-cylinder Model Four, offered at $1,050. The company entered receivership in September 1910, but production continued. The following month, a court order attached its Anderson property after creditors believed the company was preparing to move out of state. A few more Model Fours were built into early 1911. By March, the Rider-Lewis plant had been sold to Nyberg Motor Works, marking the end of the company's automobile production.
