GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of Sabena, Belgium's national airline and a distinctive name in commercial flight. Operations began in 1923, with an early Brussels-to-London service via Ostend and a pioneering connection to Léopoldville by 1925. After wartime disruption, the airline returned to scheduled service and later opened routes to New York, entering the transatlantic jet age in 1960. This mug makes a considered choice for aviation fans, Belgian history enthusiasts, and Sabena collectors.
Sabena, the Belgian national airline, began operations on 23 May 1923, succeeding SNETA, an organization formed in 1919 to pioneer commercial aviation in Belgium. Created by the Belgian government with help from the Devriendt family, it flew its first commercial service from Haren, Brussels, to London via Ostend on 1 July 1923. Early expansion connected European cities, while a Brussels-to-Léopoldville flight in 1925 pioneered a long-haul route between Europe and Africa. After wartime service disruptions, the airline resumed scheduled flights on 1 September 1945 and began transatlantic service to New York in 1946. It became mainland Europe's first airline to operate a jet across the Atlantic in 1960. Later known as Sabena World Airlines, it came under Swissair management in 1995. Financial difficulties led to legal protection in October 2001 and liquidation in November. Former subsidiary Delta Air Transport was taken over and became SN Brussels Airlines in February 2002. After merging with Virgin Express in 2007, that airline became Brussels Airlines. Sabena's headquarters were at Brussels Airport in Zaventem.
