Keep notes close at hand with a design inspired by Safi Airways and its place in Afghan aviation history. Founded in 2006 within the Safi Group, the airline began flying from Kabul in 2009 and connected the city with Frankfurt before the route ended in 2010. Its story makes a distinctive subject for airline and travel collectors. Use this note pad for reminders, planning, or study, or add it to a desk display celebrating regional carriers and the history behind their names.
Safi Airways Co. was an Afghan airline founded in 2006 as a subsidiary of the Safi Group by its chairman and CEO, Ghulam Hazrat Safi. Headquartered in Shahr-e-Naw, Kabul, it also maintained an administrative office in the Dubai Airport Free Zone. The airline began flying on 15 June 2009, connecting Kabul with Frankfurt Airport in Germany. It took delivery of a pre-owned Airbus A340-300 on 5 November 2009. The Frankfurt service was suspended on 24 November 2010 after an EU ban barred Afghan carriers from flying to Europe, and it did not resume. In 2011, Safi replaced its Boeing 737-300 aircraft with Airbus A32x aircraft. From February 2012, it operated in compliance with EASA requirements, IOSA and ICAO. An intended 2016 acquisition of an Airbus A330 for long-haul routes did not take place. On 5 September 2016, Afghan authorities ordered the airline to suspend all operations over unpaid debt and taxes. The article identifies Safi Airways as Afghanistan’s first and largest privately owned airline.
