GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Make your next round a nod to Milwaukee's neighborhood-shopping history with these Schuster's golf balls. Founded in 1883, Ed. Schuster & Co. built a department-store chain serving locations across the city, from Third Street to Packard Plaza and Capitol Court. Trading stamps, the Budga-Plate charge card, Billie the Brownie and the Christmas Parade all helped make the brand recognizable. These bring regional retail nostalgia to a golf outing and make a fitting choice for Wisconsin history collectors.
Founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1883, Schuster's, officially Ed. Schuster & Co., became a department store chain built around neighborhood locations rather than a single downtown store. Its sites included 2151 N. Third St., now Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, 12th and Vliet streets, 11th and Mitchell streets, Packard Plaza and Capitol Court. Kirchhoff & Rose designed the Third Street store. The company introduced trading stamps in 1891 and an early charge card called Budga-Plate. Its promotions also included Billie the Brownie, a doll offered from 1927 to 1955, and Schuster's Christmas Parade. Golda Meir worked at Schuster's after graduating from high school in 1915 and before moving to Palestine in 1921. Gimbels bought Schuster's in 1962, and the stores operated as Gimbels-Schuster's until 1969. The chain is now defunct. Its history connects Milwaukee retail, neighborhood shopping, department-store marketing and a mid-century corporate transition.
