Carry a piece of Australian media history on your next journey. Seven West Media brought together the newspaper heritage of The West Australian and the expanding reach of the Seven television network when the company formed in 2011. Its story spans Perth publishing, broadcasts first seen in Melbourne and Sydney in 1956, and the changing routes from print to digital media. This luggage tag celebrates a name connected with familiar news brands and decades of commercial broadcasting.
Seven West Media was formed in 2011 when West Australian Newspapers Holdings acquired Seven Media Group, bringing together a major Australian newspaper publisher and a television, magazine and online media business. Its newspaper heritage includes The West Australian, owned by West Australian Newspapers from the 1920s. The Seven Network began with television stations in Melbourne and Sydney on 4 November 1956, later expanding across Australia. In 1988, the network brought together stations in the five mainland capital cities under common ownership. West Australian Newspapers had earlier passed through several owners, including Herald & Weekly Times, News Limited and Bell Group, before its assets were acquired by a newly formed company and publicly floated. Seven Media Group was created in 2006 through a joint venture involving Seven Network and KKR. After the 2011 merger, Seven West Media developed interests spanning television, print and digital publishing. In 2020 it sold Pacific Magazines to Bauer Media Group. In 2025 it acquired regional television assets from Southern Cross Austereo. Seven West Media and Southern Cross Media Group announced plans to merge in September 2025; the merger was completed on 7 January 2026, making Seven West Media a subsidiary of Southern Cross.
