Shuttle America Corporation was a U.S. regional airline established in 1995 by former CEO David Hackett. It began flying on November 12, 1998, as a low-fare commuter carrier based in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, near Bradley International Airport. Its first route linked Hartford with Buffalo, and its initial aircraft was a 50-seat Bombardier Dash 8-300. In 1999, it added service from Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts, including routes to Buffalo, New York-LaGuardia, Trenton, and Greensboro. Financial difficulties followed rapid expansion. Wexford Holdings purchased the airline in 2001, and Shuttle America began operating as US Airways Express while adding Saab 340 aircraft and serving partner-carrier hubs. Its headquarters moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 2002, then to Indianapolis after Republic Airways Holdings acquired it in 2005. The fleet transitioned to Embraer jets, operating flights for Delta Connection and United Express; the airline also briefly operated aircraft for Mokulele Airlines. Republic Airways Holdings began combining subsidiaries in 2014. Shuttle America ceased operations on January 30, 2017, and merged into Republic Airways the following day, with aircraft and crews transferred to the Republic certificate.
