Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take Silicon Graphics history along on the move. Founded in Mountain View in 1981, SGI became known for specialized workstations that advanced professional 3D graphics, then grew into software and high-performance computing. Its story includes landmark acquisitions, changing architectures, bankruptcy and successor businesses, making the company a compelling subject for technology collectors. This travel mug honors the ambition and impact of that era, whether it accompanies a commute, a workday, or a visit with fellow fans of computer graphics history.
Silicon Graphics, Inc. was an American high-performance computing company founded in Mountain View, California, in 1981 by computer scientist James H. Clark and colleagues from Stanford University. Its early workstations used specialized geometry hardware developed from research at Stanford, helping establish the company in 3D graphics. The business grew under CEO Ed McCracken, who led it from 1984 to 1997, and expanded into graphics software and high-performance systems. In 1995, it acquired Alias Research and Wavefront Technologies; in 1996, it acquired Cray Research, later selling Cray's product lines in 2000. In 1999, the company adopted SGI as its corporate identity while retaining its legal name. Pressure from increasingly capable personal computers and a costly shift from MIPS systems toward Intel architectures contributed to its decline. SGI entered bankruptcy protection in 2006, emerged later that year, and filed again in April 2009. Rackable Systems acquired substantially all of its assets in May 2009 and adopted the name Silicon Graphics International. The remaining company became Graphics Properties Holdings. Hewlett Packard Enterprise acquired Silicon Graphics International in 2016.
