GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep your cards close with a tribute to Skybus Airlines, the Columbus-based carrier that paired online ticket sales with low advertised fares and optional add-on charges. The airline’s first flights took off in May 2007, and its expanding route map soon included a focus city in Greensboro. This business card holder makes a distinctive desk or pocket accessory for aviation collectors, airline-history enthusiasts, and anyone intrigued by the short-lived companies that tested new ways to fly. A practical reminder of a bold budget-airline experiment.
Skybus Airlines Inc. was a privately held airline based in Columbus, Ohio. Founded after America West Airlines reduced its Columbus hub, the company sought to offer the lowest fares in the United States through an ultra-low-cost model inspired by European budget carriers. It received approval to operate on March 15, 2006, and FAA certification on May 10, 2007. Its first passenger flights departed Port Columbus International Airport on May 22, 2007, serving eight destinations. Skybus emphasized point-to-point routes, secondary airports, online ticket sales, advertised $10 seats, and extra charges for many services. It later established a second focus city at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina, and added routes from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The airline also sold onboard merchandise and advertising on aircraft. Rising fuel costs and a weakening economy contributed to its shutdown announcement on April 4, 2008; its last flights operated the following day. Skybus sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. At closure, it employed about 450 people, mostly in the Columbus area, and operated 13 Airbus A319 aircraft, including leased planes.
