GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give your screen a place to rest while celebrating the history of Sleepy's. Founded in Brooklyn in 1931, the family-rooted mattress business adopted its best-known name in 1975 and expanded across the Northeast, eventually opening more than 1,000 stores. This foldable mobile phone display stand connects a practical desk or home accessory with a recognizable chapter in retail history. It is a conversation piece for collectors who remember the stores and the brand's changing fortunes.
Sleepy's traces its roots to 1931, when Louis Acker opened a mattress store in Brooklyn, New York. After Acker died in 1955, his sons continued the business, incorporated in 1957 as Bedding Discount Center. Harry Acker later branched out on his own, and in 1975 the chain took the Sleepy's name. The company grew through new stores and acquisitions, including Kleinsleep in 1993, Mattress Discounters in 1996, Rockaway Bedding in 2007, and mattress businesses in 2009 and 2010. Its headquarters and distribution operations moved among New Hyde Park, Port Washington, Bethpage, and Hicksville, New York, as the business expanded; it also built a warehouse in Robbinsville, New Jersey. Sleepy's entered the Chicago market in 2013 and opened its 1,000th store in 2014. Mattress Firm agreed to acquire Sleepy's in December 2015. Stores were gradually rebranded, with the process completed by January 1, 2017, while Sleepy's continued online until 2018. Mattress Firm later reused Sleepy's as the name of a private-label mattress line.
