Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Add a touch of airline history to casual get-togethers with this Songbird Airways can cooler. The brand’s roots reach back to Sky King, which began flying team charters in 1990 before moving through contract operations and scheduled-service plans. Reorganizations and an evolving Florida presence made the carrier an intriguing chapter in small-airline history. A fitting conversation starter for aviation enthusiasts and collectors who appreciate the stories behind lesser-known airline names.
Songbird Airways began as Sky King, a privately held charter airline that started flying in July 1990 for the Sacramento Kings, initially using a single BAC One-Eleven for the Kansas City Kings. It received a FAR-121 certificate in 2002, when most of its flying served hockey teams. After the 2005 NHL lockout, Hurricane Katrina and rising fuel prices, the airline adopted the ACMI model and partnered with Gold Transportation. Sky King filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March 2010 and, after reorganization, moved its headquarters from Sacramento, California, to Lakeland, Florida. Purchased by Aviation Capital Partners Group in October 2010, it shifted from private charters toward scheduled services. It filed again in August 2012, later emerged from bankruptcy on October 3, 2014, and was acquired by AerLine Holdings LLC on October 24. Service resumed on December 22, 2014, after federal approval. The airline operated under the Songbird Airways name and, on August 30, 2017, agreed to a proposed stock sale to USGlobal Airways; that agreement was terminated on November 30, 2017. Its history also includes charter flights to Cuba and contract flying for other carriers.
