Songbird Airways began as Sky King, a privately held charter airline that started flying in July 1990 for the Sacramento Kings, initially using a single BAC One-Eleven for the Kansas City Kings. It filed again in August 2012, later emerged from bankruptcy on October 3, 2014, and was acquired by AerLine Holdings LLC on October 24. Service resumed on December 22, 2014, after federal approval. The airline operated under the Songbird Airways name and, on August 30, 2017, agreed to a proposed stock sale to USGlobal Airways; that agreement was terminated on November 30, 2017. Its history also includes charter flights to Cuba and contract flying for other carriers.
