GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Take a piece of regional telephone history along for the day with this South Central Bell tumbler. Created in July 1968, the company served Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee after those Bell telephone operations separated from Southern Bell. Based in Birmingham, it became a BellSouth subsidiary in 1984 and joined Southern Bell again as BellSouth Telecommunications in 1992. The South Central Bell name remained in use until 1995, making this tumbler a thoughtful nod to a memorable chapter in the changing Bell network.
South Central Bell Telephone Company was the Bell System’s operating name for telephone services in Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama, the company was created in July 1968, when Bell telephone operations in those five states were separated from Southern Bell. Its headquarters was in the building now known as AT&T City Center in Birmingham. In 1984, following the breakup of the Bell System, South Central Bell became a subsidiary of BellSouth Corporation, bringing it back under the same corporate ownership as Southern Bell. The two operating companies were officially reunited in 1992 as BellSouth Telecommunications. South Central Bell and Southern Bell names continued in use until 1995. Though the original company name was retired, the service network continued to operate and conduct business under the new AT&T. The company’s history traces a regional transition from Bell System operations to BellSouth, then to a successor network operating under AT&T.
