On March 12, 2012, it cancelled its charter flights and announced a possible restart, but did not resume service. It filed for Chapter 11 protection on March 16; Chapter 7 liquidation began April 12, 2012. Subsequent legal proceedings concerned the company’s finances and passenger-fare escrow funds. Direct Air had no aircraft fleet of its own.
