GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Bring Spokane International railroad history to your next gathering with a can cooler inspired by the line’s enduring SI identity. The railway connected Spokane with Canadian Pacific at Kingsgate and later continued under Union Pacific control. Even after locomotives and cabooses received new paint, their SI lettering kept the earlier railroad name in view. This piece is a fitting keepsake for railfans and collectors who appreciate the equipment, regional connections, and changing corporate story behind a working North American route.
The Spokane International began as the Spokane International Railway, built by railroader Daniel Chase Corbin under an agreement with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP). CP funded much of the construction and secured its loan by holding the new line’s bonds. Running from Spokane, Washington, to the CP at Kingsgate, British Columbia, the route connected with Union Pacific and helped CP compete for traffic between the Midwest and the Puget Sound area. The CP also controlled the Soo Line, linking the network to Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and Chicago. Passenger service included the Soo-Spokane Train De Luxe. After financial difficulties and receivership during the Great Depression, the railway was reorganized on October 1, 1941, and renamed the Spokane International Railroad under the restructuring agreement. Union Pacific took control on October 6, 1958, and continued to lease the line for operation. In 1962, UP leased the railway’s 11 ALCO RS-1 locomotives and sold it four steel cabooses; the equipment received UP yellow paint while retaining SI lettering. On December 31, 1987, UP formally merged the railway into its corporate structure. The line remains in operation as Union Pacific’s Spokane Subdivision, connecting southern British Columbia with the northwest United States.
