Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a chapter of sporting-goods retail history wherever the day takes you with this Sports Authority travel mug. The company’s roots reach through regional retailers including Gart Brothers, Sportmart, and Oshman’s, whose histories came together through a series of mergers and changing store identities. After the 2003 merger, the Sports Authority name spread across a large national footprint. This stainless tumbler is a distinctive keepsake for collectors who remember the stores and the brand’s place in American retail history.
Sports Authority grew from several regional sporting-goods businesses. Gart Brothers began in Denver in 1928, founded by Nathan Gart with fishing-rod samples. It opened the Sportscastle superstore in Denver in 1971 and expanded through acquisitions, including Hagan's Sports and Stevens Brown in 1987. Sportmart began in Niles, Illinois, in 1971; Gart Brothers and Sportmart merged in 1998 while retaining separate store names. Houston-based Oshman's, founded in 1919, merged with Gart Bros. in 2001. The Sports Authority opened its first store in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 1987. Kmart acquired it in 1990, and it was spun off five years later. On August 4, 2003, Gart Sports and The Sports Authority completed a merger, adopting the Sports Authority name. Their stores were rebranded under that identity in 2005 and 2006. The company later operated from Englewood, Colorado, and reached 463 stores in 45 states and Puerto Rico. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 2, 2016; the case became Chapter 7. Stores closed, and Dick's Sporting Goods acquired the brand name and intellectual property in 2016.
