From 1917 to 1959, the Frisco jointly operated the Texas Special with the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. The railway’s name suggested a western reach it never had: its tracks did not approach San Francisco and ended more than 1,000 miles away. The Frisco merged into Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980. Much of its core network remains in use, operated by BNSF Railway, while Frisco, Texas, preserves the name and former railway logo.
