GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Raise a glass to Sohio, the Ohio fuel brand whose story began in 1870 and continued through generations of changing station signs. After the 1911 breakup of the Standard Oil trust, the company operated as Sohio in Ohio and introduced the Boron name in nearby states in 1954. Its later partnership with BP connected regional roadside history to Prudhoe Bay and the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. This pint glass brings that distinctive chapter of American petroleum history to home bars, collection displays, and gatherings with fellow history fans.
Standard Oil Company (Ohio), commonly known as Sohio, began in 1870 under founder John D. Rockefeller. It became a separate company after the 1911 breakup of the Standard Oil trust and operated stations as Sohio in Ohio. In nearby states, it used the Boron name, introduced in 1954. In 1968, Sohio arranged a partnership with BP tied to development of the Prudhoe Bay oilfield and construction of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. BP gained majority control in 1978 after production reached the agreed threshold, then bought the remaining 45 percent of Sohio in 1987. The company’s U.S. operations were unified as BP America, while gasoline sales under the Sohio name continued until 1991. Sohio and Boron stations operated across Ohio and neighboring states; in 1985, Sohio also acquired former Gulf stations in several southeastern states. A 1946 Sohio station in Steubenville, Ohio, was restored in vintage Sohio colors as a museum in 2011. The company’s corporate history links the Standard Oil breakup to the BP era and to the changing names and signs of American fuel retailing.
