Bring a little Alaska aviation history to everyday play with this Talkeetna Air Taxi toddler tee. The company began in 1947 as Talkeetna Air Service, flying supplies to remote homesteads and prospecting claims. Today, its bush planes connect visitors and climbers with Denali and glacier country. This piece celebrates a lasting Talkeetna story, from early flights to the mountain journeys that continue to inspire families and young explorers.
Established in 1947 as Talkeetna Air Service, Talkeetna Air Taxi is based in Talkeetna, Alaska. The company operates bush planes equipped with wheels and skis, and holds a permit to land in Denali National Park; the article describes it as one of fewer than half a dozen air services with that authorization. Its historical work included supply flights to remote homesteads and prospecting claims. In the decade preceding the article, its traffic was primarily connected with tourism and climbers. The company offers Denali sightseeing flights, including glacier landings, and transports climbers from Talkeetna to mountain areas in Denali National Park. Its flights serve locations including the Kahiltna, Ruth, and Pika glaciers, as well as climbing areas in the Alaska Range. From April through August, it has scheduled 35 sightseeing tours per day. In August 2023, it flew more than 11,972 passengers. The article reports that, as of August 2024, its fleet contained eight aircraft and two helicopters. It also notes the adoption of a new hangar cat in summer 2024, following the death of Beaver, the longtime hangar cat, that spring.
