GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Give a cold drink a nod to Tandy Computer Corporation and its remarkable shift from leathercraft to electronics and personal computing. The company’s Texas story began in 1919, while its TRS-80 era brought the Tandy name into homes and helped make it familiar to early computer fans. This can cooler is an easy choice for casual gatherings, a game night, or a collection centered on computing and retail history. It celebrates a brand with more than one chapter to remember.
Tandy’s roots date to 1919, when Norton Hinckley and Dave L. Tandy founded the Hinckley-Tandy Leather Company in Texas to supply shoe-repair dealers. The business opened a Beaumont branch in 1927 and moved it to Houston in 1932. In 1950, Charles Tandy developed a leathercraft retail and mail-order division, which grew into a nationwide chain. After a period under General American Industries, the company took the Tandy Corporation name in 1961 and moved its headquarters to Fort Worth, Texas. Tandy acquired management control of Boston-based RadioShack in 1963, broadening its business into consumer electronics. From 1977, its TRS-80 computers and later models made the company a prominent participant in the personal computer market, distributed through its retail network. Tandy acquired laptop maker GRiD Systems in 1988. Facing stronger competition, it sold its computer-manufacturing assets to AST Research in the early 1990s and ended its PC business in 1993. In 2000, the Tandy Corporation name was dropped and the company became RadioShack Corporation. Its history spans leathercraft, electronics retail, and personal computing.
