Tandy acquired management control of Boston-based RadioShack in 1963, broadening its business into consumer electronics. Tandy acquired laptop maker GRiD Systems in 1988. Facing stronger competition, it sold its computer-manufacturing assets to AST Research in the early 1990s and ended its PC business in 1993.
