GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Tandy Corporation connected several eras of American commerce, beginning with a Texas leather-supply business in 1919 and expanding into leathercraft retail, electronics stores, and personal computers. This double-sided keychain charm offers a compact way to celebrate that distinctive company history. It is a fitting keepsake for collectors, former customers, and fans of early computing or craft-store culture, and a thoughtful small gift for someone who remembers Tandy’s changing retail identity.
Tandy’s roots date to 1919, when Norton Hinckley and Dave L. Tandy established the Hinckley-Tandy Leather Company in Texas to supply shoe repair dealers. The business opened a Beaumont branch in 1927 and moved to Houston in 1932. In 1950, Charles Tandy began developing leathercraft retail stores, helping grow the company into a national craft and hobby retailer. After regaining management control of its parent, the company adopted the Tandy Corporation name in 1961 and moved its headquarters to Fort Worth, Texas. In 1963, it took management control of RadioShack, expanding into electronics retail. Beginning in 1977, Tandy became a prominent personal computer maker through products such as the TRS-80, distributed through its stores. It later introduced compatible computer lines and acquired laptop maker GRiD Systems in 1988. Facing strong competition, Tandy sold its computer-manufacturing business to AST Computers in the early 1990s and exited the PC business in 1993, retaining other goods-making units. In 2000, the Tandy Corporation name was dropped and the company became RadioShack Corporation.
