Keep a small reminder of Tennessee rail history close at hand with this Tennessee Central Railway Square Porcelain Fridge Magnet. Founded in 1884 as the Nashville and Knoxville Railroad, the line grew to connect Nashville, Harriman, and communities along its route. Although operations ended in 1968, former tracks remain in use and the railway museum preserves part of its story. A thoughtful collectible for train enthusiasts, Tennessee history fans, and admirers of regional railway heritage.

The Tennessee Central Railway began in 1884 as the Nashville and Knoxville Railroad, founded by Alexander S. Crawford to connect East Tennessee coal and mineral resources with markets in the midstate. The original line reached from Lebanon to Standing Stone, now Monterey. Beginning in 1893, entrepreneur Jere Baxter organized and built additional lines intended to form the Tennessee Central. The lines were reorganized as the Tennessee Central Railroad in 1902, and the final name, Tennessee Central Railway, was adopted in 1922. The route linked Nashville with Harriman and connected onward to Knoxville, crossing the Cumberland Plateau at Walden's Ridge. The railroad endured receiverships and financial strain, but operated profitably for much of 1922–1945. Wartime traffic helped temporarily; after postwar difficulties, passenger service ended on July 31, 1955. Bankruptcy was approved in 1967, and operations ceased on August 31, 1968. Its assets went to several railroads: Illinois Central acquired the western division, Southern Railway the eastern end, and Louisville & Nashville the middle portion. Some former tracks remain in use, and the Tennessee Central Railway Museum occupies the railroad's former shop and headquarters.
