Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a small reminder of Texas International Airlines and its changing place in aviation history. The company’s story runs from Aviation Enterprises in 1940 to Trans-Texas Airways in 1947 and the Texas International name adopted in 1969. Its routes eventually reached Mexico, while Starliners and DC-9 Pamper-jets marked memorable chapters in its fleet. This double-sided keychain charm suits collectors, travelers, and anyone interested in the regional airline that merged into Continental in 1982.
Texas International Airlines began as Aviation Enterprises in 1940 and became Trans-Texas Airways (TTA) in 1947. Headquartered near William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, it started as a Texas carrier, operating Douglas DC-3s called “Starliners.” Its network expanded beyond the state: Memphis was added in 1953, New Orleans and Jackson in 1959, and service to Mexico in 1967. The airline introduced Convair 600 turboprops and, in 1966, Douglas DC-9 jets marketed as “Pamper-jets.” In April 1969, TTA adopted the Texas International Airlines name. The renamed carrier expanded its routes and standardized on DC-9s and Convair 600s before becoming an all-jet airline in 1979. Acquired by Jet Capital Corporation in 1972, it introduced discounted “Peanut Fares” and, in 1979, a frequent-flyer program called Payola Passes. In 1980, Texas Air Corporation became its holding company. Texas Air acquired Continental Airlines, and Texas International merged into Continental on October 31, 1982. Continental later merged with United Airlines in 2010, making United the stated successor. The airline’s history connects regional Texas service with a growing domestic and Mexican route network and the corporate changes that reshaped the carrier.
