GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep cards close with a small nod to a lasting Kansas City retail story. The Jones Store started in Stafford, Kansas, in 1887, and its 1895 Kansas City opening began a long connection with downtown shoppers. The flagship remained a familiar presence until January 1998, while the company’s name disappeared from stores in 2006. This business card holder makes a considered desk accessory for former customers, department-store collectors, and people who value the history behind local names.
The Jones Store Company began in 1887 as an 800-square-foot shop in Stafford, Kansas, founded by J. Logan Jones. In 1895, Jones opened a Kansas City, Missouri, store at Sixth and Main, in the River Market neighborhood. In 1902, the business leased a seven-story building occupying a full block at Twelfth Street and Main, across from Bernheimer Bros. & Co. Jones declared bankruptcy in 1910, and New York interests took over the store. The new owners acquired merchandise from Bernheimer Brothers in 1919. The downtown flagship continued operating until January 1998, although other major retailers had left downtown; its building was demolished in 2005. The Jones Store became a division of Mercantile Stores Company in the early 1960s. May Department Stores acquired it in 1998 following Dillard’s acquisition of Mercantile, integrating it into the Famous-Barr division. After May joined Federated in 2005, the business became part of the new Macy’s Midwest division in February 2006. The Jones Store name was phased out that September in favor of the Macy’s nameplate.
