Its website officially launched on August 13, 1999, and Andover.net, a Boston-area technology news publisher, acquired it that October. Andover.net was acquired a few months later by VA Linux, a California technology company; after several name changes, VA Linux became Geeknet. ThinkGeek moved its offices to Fairfax, Virginia, in August 2000. GameStop acquired Geeknet in a deal announced in June 2015 and completed on July 17. ThinkGeek opened its first retail store at The Florida Mall in Orlando on September 25, 2015, then expanded with additional U.S. and international stores in 2016.
