Keep business cards close with a nod to ThinkGeek, the specialty retailer that made geek-culture discoveries part of online shopping. Founded in 1999, it grew from a side project into a recognizable destination for gadgets, clothing, games, office toys, and other unexpected finds. Its story includes a move into physical stores and a 2019 transition of online sales to GameStop. This business card holder makes a thoughtful desk accessory for collectors and fans of internet retail history.
ThinkGeek was an American retailer serving computer enthusiasts and fans of geek culture, with products ranging from clothing and gadgets to office toys, games, candy, and unusual computer accessories. Founded in 1999 by Jen Frazier, Jon Sime, Scott Smith, and Willie Vadnais, it began as a side project while the founders were running an Internet startup. Its website officially launched on August 13, 1999, and Andover.net, a Boston-area technology news publisher, acquired it that October. Andover.net was acquired a few months later by VA Linux, a California technology company; after several name changes, VA Linux became Geeknet. ThinkGeek moved its offices to Fairfax, Virginia, in August 2000. GameStop acquired Geeknet in a deal announced in June 2015 and completed on July 17. ThinkGeek opened its first retail store at The Florida Mall in Orlando on September 25, 2015, then expanded with additional U.S. and international stores in 2016. In June 2019, the company announced the closure of its standalone online store and the integration of its e-commerce operations into a curated selection on GameStop's online operations. The brand is now owned by Geeknet, a GameStop subsidiary.
