Thor initially supplied engines and parts rather than complete motorcycles. When the agreement ended in 1907, Aurora developed and sold its own motorcycles under the Thor name. The marque introduced a V-twin in 1910, first with one cylinder upright, and had a larger, conventional V-shaped twin by 1913. Thor also developed automatic intake valves and offered features including belt drive and, by 1916, a three-speed transmission. William Ottaway led the company’s racing efforts from 1909 until 1913, when Thor motorcycles set national records. Thor stopped making motorcycle engines in 1916, and motorcycle production dwindled in the late 1910s, ending around 1920. Aurora continued as a company, and Thor persisted as a household-appliance brand.
