Thor also developed automatic intake valves and offered features including belt drive and, by 1916, a three-speed transmission. William Ottaway led the company’s racing efforts from 1909 until 1913, when Thor motorcycles set national records. Thor stopped making motorcycle engines in 1916, and motorcycle production dwindled in the late 1910s, ending around 1920. Aurora continued as a company, and Thor persisted as a household-appliance brand.
