Ultimate Electronics built its name around the changing world of consumer technology, making this foldable mobile phone display stand a fitting modern tribute. It recalls a retailer with Colorado roots and earlier identities such as Audio King and SoundTrack Colorado, then a fast 2000s expansion. For collectors and former customers, it brings a small reminder of the chain’s electronics-store legacy to a desk, counter, or nightstand.
Ultimate Electronics was a consumer electronics store chain incorporated in Delaware with principal offices in Thornton, Colorado. Its Colorado roots included Pearse Electronics, while earlier stores also operated as SoundTrack Colorado and Audio King in Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota. The company began a major expansion campaign in 2000 and had doubled its store count to 64 by 2004. In 2005, Ultimate filed for bankruptcy; Hollywood Video founder and then-CEO Mark Wattles acquired 32 stores at the bankruptcy auction, while the remaining half closed. The reorganized business became privately held and was operated by Ultimate Acquisition Partners, L.P., a division of Wattles Capital Management, LLC. In November 2010, it opened a Tigard, Oregon store, its only West Coast location. On January 27, 2011, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, later converted to Chapter 7 liquidation, ending operations in 2011.
