Uni-Mart was a Pennsylvania-based convenience store company founded by Henry D. Sahakian in 1972. Sahakian opened the first Uni-Mart in State College, Pennsylvania, in 1981, rebranding stores he had operated through the Ma-jik Market franchise since the early 1970s. The business became a public company on the American Stock Exchange in December 1986. In September 1996, Uni-Mart opened the 10,000-square-foot Uni-Mart Center in State College, promoted as America's Largest Convenience Store Under One Roof; it combined convenience retail and gasoline with several food, mailing, and banking tenants. Uni-Mart returned to private ownership in July 2004 following the creation of Green Valley Acquisition Co. LLC. By 2008, it operated 283 stores and gas stations across Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio. Uni-Marts LLC filed for voluntary Chapter 11 protection on May 29, 2008. Its remaining assets were sold in December 2009 to Kwik Pik LLC, an affiliate of Lehigh Gas Corporation. Many stations still used the Uni-Mart name as of 2016.
