GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Mark the history of a St. Louis institution with this Vandervoort’s unisex quarter zip pullover. The retailer began in 1850 as McClelland, Scruggs & Company, then expanded from its North 4th Street dry goods shop into downtown locations and suburban branches. Its path included a move to The Syndicate, a jewelry-company acquisition, and fashion shows that made the store part of regional style history. A thoughtful choice for collectors and local-history enthusiasts.
Scruggs, Vandervoort & Barney began in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1850 as McClelland, Scruggs & Company, founded by M.V.L. McClelland and Richard Scruggs. Its first store was a dry goods shop on North 4th Street in downtown St. Louis, and the business later expanded. William L. Vandervoort joined in 1860; in 1870, McClelland retired and Charles E. Barney took his place. In 1907, the company moved to The Syndicate at Tenth and Olive streets. In 1917, it acquired Mermod Jaccard King Jewelry Company and incorporated into that company’s downtown location. Known for holding fashion shows, the retailer was called Vandervoort’s by the 1950s, when it opened a branch in Clayton, Missouri, followed later by one at Crestwood Plaza in Crestwood. Facing financial pressures, Vandervoort’s closed in 1969. That year, Famous-Barr took over the Crestwood Plaza branch.
