Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep business cards close alongside a name with deep roots in New York finance. Warburg Dillon Read took shape in 1997, joining the story of Dillon, Read & Co. with that of S. G. Warburg & Co. The firm’s long history reaches back to an 1832 brokerage and includes bond underwriting, major corporate transactions, and repeated changes in ownership. This card holder makes a thoughtful desk accessory for collectors drawn to the names and turning points of financial history.
Dillon Read traces its roots to Carpenter & Vermilye, a Wall Street brokerage founded in New York in 1832 by Washington Romeyn Vermilye, George Carpenter, and William Montgomery Vermilye. The firm sold war bonds during the U.S. Civil War. Renamed in 1905 after partner William A. Read, it became Dillon, Read & Co. in 1921 when Clarence Dillon joined the name. Its business included underwriting bonds and securities for New York City, railroads, and other companies. The firm managed a 1921 rescue of Goodyear, arranged the 1925 buyout of Dodge Brothers and its 1928 sale to Chrysler, financed petroleum interests, and underwrote bonds for the Triborough Bridge in 1937. In 1986, its partners sold the firm to The Travelers Companies. It was sold to Barings in 1991, bought back by management in 1995, then acquired by Swiss Bank Corporation in 1997 and merged with S. G. Warburg & Co. to form Warburg Dillon Read. The 1998 merger of Swiss Bank Corporation and Union Bank of Switzerland brought it into UBS. UBS later established Dillon Read Capital Management in 2005 and announced its closure in 2007.
