Western Auto Supply Cuffed Beanie
Western Auto Supply started as a Kansas City mail-order business in 1909 and grew into a familiar name in neighborhoods across the country. This cuffed beanie nods to that broad retail legacy, from independent local dealers to a network of more than 1,200 company-owned stores and thousands of associate locations. The company's story also includes distinctive lines such as Western Flyer bicycles and Wizard tools. For collectors, longtime customers, and fans of American retail history, it offers a simple way to wear a memorable name from the road and the neighborhood.
Western Auto Supply Company began in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1909, founded by George Pepperdine and Don Abnor Davis as a mail-order business for replacement automobile parts. Its first retail store opened in 1921. The chain grew alongside automobile ownership, eventually operating more than 1,200 company-owned stores and over 4,000 independent associate locations. Its offerings expanded well beyond auto parts, including bicycles, tires, tools, appliances, electronics, and outdoor equipment. The company developed private-label lines such as Western Flyer bicycles, Wizard tools, and Revelation firearms. Beneficial Corporation acquired Western Auto in 1961. In 1985, Western Auto management and Wesray Capital Corporation led a leveraged buyout; Sears acquired the company in 1988. Sears converted many company-owned stores to the Parts America format and sold most of the remaining business to Advance Auto Parts in 1998. Advance ended distribution to Western Auto dealers in 2003, bringing the brand's distribution network to a close. The former headquarters at 2107 Grand Boulevard in Kansas City became loft condominiums, while its rooftop sign was relit in 2018.

This cuffed beanie carries a lived-in street energy—soft, warm, and quietly bold. The low-profile embroidery sits on the cuff like a personal insignia: a small, slightly distressed logo with a touch of red that reads as both vintage and current. It slips on easily and stays put through commutes, late-night walks, and chilly market runs, adding a subtle graphic edge without shouting.
Wear it with a worn denim jacket, layered knit, or an oversized coat. It works for creatives who like to curate a look that’s casual but considered, for city cyclists who need dependable warmth, or for anyone who favors compact, tactile details. The hypoallergenic acrylic knit keeps things comfortable against the skin while the 12" cuff gives you styling flexibility—fold it high for warmth or roll it low for a slouchier silhouette. This is a small, everyday piece that quietly completes an outfit and ages into its own personality.
