Remember a regional carrier that connected communities across Southeast Alaska with this Wings of Alaska Hoodie / Sweatshirt. Established in Juneau in 1982, the airline offered scheduled, charter, and freight flights, serving places where air links mattered. Its history continued through acquisitions by SeaPort Airlines and Fjord Flying Services, and it ceased operations in 2017. This apparel brings the company’s distinct Alaska story to aviation fans, former travelers, and collectors of regional airline history.
Wings of Alaska was established in 1982 to provide scheduled, charter and freight flights to communities across Southeast Alaska. Based in Juneau, it became a regional air carrier serving communities that relied on air connections. The airline was one of seven in Alaska to earn the Medallion Foundation Shield, which recognized safety and operational guidelines exceeding Federal Aviation Regulations; it was the only scheduled land-based airline in Southeast Alaska to receive the distinction. Its aircraft used Chelton Flight Systems Capstone Program technology, including a feature described as “Highway In The Sky.” In 2008, SeaPort Airlines acquired Wings of Alaska and moved its headquarters to Portland, Oregon. The combined airline operated under a single FAA certificate for scheduled and non-scheduled flights in the Lower 48 market. In 2015, Alaska-based business partnership Fjord Flying Services acquired Wings from SeaPort Airlines. The carrier continued using the Wings of Alaska name and said it would focus on local service and connections within Alaska rather than links to the continental United States. In March 2017, Wings of Alaska announced it was going out of business and ceased operations immediately. A 2015 crash on a flight between Juneau and Hoonah was investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board, which attributed it to pilot error in unfavorable weather.
