GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Keep the story of World Airways close with a phone case inspired by an airline founded in 1948 and shaped by charter flying, government contracts, and military airlift. From its Oakland years to its later wide-body operations, World connected aviation history with journeys across continents. The airline ceased operations in 2014, while its name remained part of a planned relaunch announced in 2017. A distinctive pick for aviation enthusiasts, airline-history collectors, and travelers drawn to enduring carrier names.
World Airways was founded on March 29, 1948, by Benjamin Pepper, a former Pan American World Airways flying boat pilot. It began with three former Pan Am Boeing 314 flying boats and was later sold to Beroviche Steamship Company. Edward Daly bought the airline in 1950 and added Douglas DC-4s; a government contract followed in 1951. Initially a charter and supplemental carrier, World was barred from scheduled service under federal regulation. After deregulation, it began scheduled flights in 1979, using aircraft including Boeing 727s and McDonnell Douglas DC-10s. During the Vietnam War it flew troops and equipment from Oakland, California, and operated the final airlift flight out of Đà Nẵng on March 29, 1975. The airline later operated military, charter, cargo, and wet-lease services. Its headquarters moved from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Oakland in 1956, then to the Washington area in 1987 and Peachtree City, Georgia, in 2001. World became part of World Air Holdings in 2006 and was later acquired by ATA Holdings, renamed Global Aero Logistics. It ceased operations on March 27, 2014. In 2017, 777 Partners acquired its intellectual property and announced plans to relaunch the brand.
