Product Details & Size Guide
GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a reminder of Wright Air Lines and the regional communities it connected. Incorporated in Cleveland in 1966, the airline began with a Cleveland Burke Lakefront to Detroit City route and later expanded its reach through new service and mergers. Its history captures the promise and difficulty of independent commuter aviation, including the push for authority to operate larger aircraft. This ceramic mug suits daily coffee breaks, airline collections, and anyone fascinated by Cleveland’s aviation past.
Wright Air Lines was incorporated on May 18, 1966, by Gerald Weller and began service from Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport to Detroit City Airport on June 27. The route had been served by TAG Airlines, and Wright merged with Commuter Airlines before its first flight. It added Pittsburgh service and later combined with Air Commuter, extending its network to Ohio and Pennsylvania cities. Don Schneller took control in 1969. After TAG’s financial collapse, Wright pursued authority to operate larger aircraft and received Civil Aeronautics Board certification for the Cleveland–Detroit route in early 1972. The airline also briefly served Don Scott Airport near Columbus in 1975, then moved that service to Port Columbus. In 1983, Wright merged with West Virginia-based Aeromech Airlines. The merger was followed by financial losses, Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1984, and a 1985 court finding of fraud that shifted the case to liquidation. Wright continued operating briefly after the case returned to Chapter 11, but its scheduled service ultimately ended. Its history links small-aircraft commuting, federal route regulation, Cleveland aviation, and the difficult transition to larger regional aircraft.
