GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a small reminder of Canadian shopping memories with this Zellers Double-Sided Keychain Charm. Founded in 1928 in London, Ontario, Zellers grew through generations of retail change, reaching 350 stores in 1999 before major closures began in 2013. Its recognizable identity and the beloved Zeddy mascot remain part of the story for collectors. Attach this charm to keys, a bag, or a display collection, and enjoy a compact conversation piece celebrating a company that returned to stores in later chapters.
Zellers was founded by Walter P. Zeller in London, Ontario, on August 4, 1928. After its first stores were acquired and failed under another operator, Zeller bought fourteen former locations and relaunched the chain in 1931. Growth included the acquisition of Federal Stores in 1952 and a partnership with W. T. Grant, which gained majority ownership in 1959. In 1976, Zellers shareholders acquired clothing retailer Fields and hardware business Marshall Wells. Hudson's Bay Company (HBC), which had sought to buy Zellers, acquired it and Fields in 1978, taking full ownership in 1981. HBC later added Towers/Bonimart stores in 1990, Woodward's assets in 1993, and Canada's Kmart division in 1998, merging the latter into Zellers. The chain reached 350 stores in 1999. HBC sold leases for up to 220 stores to Target in 2011 and closed most remaining locations by March 2013; three later served as HBC liquidation outlets, all closed by January 2020. Zellers returned inside Hudson's Bay stores in 2023. After HBC's 2025 bankruptcy and store closures, the brand relaunched under Les Ailes de la Mode in Edmonton on October 30, 2025, followed by a Toronto store in June 2026.
