Action Computer Enterprise, Inc., known as ACE, was an American computer company active from 1978 to 1990. It was founded in 1978 by four friends in a home garage in Pasadena, California, including Herbert L. Siegel, Kwok M. Ong, and Wing Chung. The business soon moved into a Pasadena office and reached a staff of 30 in the early 1980s. ACE developed the Discovery 1600, a multi-user-capable microcomputer released in April 1979. Built around an IEEE-696-compliant S-100 bus, it used service and user processor cards to support terminals and independent operating systems. Early systems were sold in Thailand, with later sales largely reaching banks and government institutions there; about 2,000 units had been sold by 1983. ACE introduced the Discovery 500 in January 1983 and D/NET later that year, enabling a star-topology local area network of up to ten Discovery 1600 systems. By 1984, sales to Chinese businesses accounted for one-third of ACE's global revenue. Chung later left to establish Universal Digital Computer Corporation in La Mirada, California. ACE ceased operations in 1990.
