GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Start the day with a story from the early years of commercial flight. This Bowen Air Lines ceramic coffee mug celebrates the Fort Worth carrier that began service in 1930, flying passengers and express packages between selected destinations from Chicago to Brownsville. Bowen operated several notable aircraft, including Lockheed Vega, Sirius, and Orion models, and carried 45,000 passengers over its years in operation. A meaningful addition to an aviation collection, it remembers a Texas airline whose brief history reflects the growth of passenger air service.
Bowen Air Lines was founded by Temple Bowen in Fort Worth, Texas, and began operations on 1 September 1930. It carried passengers and express packages to selected destinations between Chicago, Illinois, and Brownsville, Texas. The airline began with five Lockheed Vega aircraft and later added a Lockheed Sirius, two Lockheed Model 9 Orion aircraft, including the prototype, and two Vultee V-1 aircraft. Over its years of operation, Bowen Air Lines flew more than 4,000,000 miles and carried 45,000 passengers. The company ceased operations on 15 February 1936 after it was unable to obtain an airmail contract from the United States Post Office Department. Most of its assets were purchased by Braniff Airways; the Vultee aircraft were sold to American Airlines. Bowen Air Lines thus links early Texas aviation, the development of commercial passenger and express service, and the later transfer of aircraft and other assets to established carriers.
