Product Details & Size Guide
Keep notes close with a nod to Cartercar, an early American automaker remembered for an unconventional idea. Founded in Jackson in 1905, the company moved to Detroit and Pontiac before General Motors acquired it in 1909. Its friction-drive transmission and thousand-speeds advertising give this short-lived marque an engaging place in brass-era history. This Cartercar Company note pad suits a desk, study space, or collector’s workspace, and makes a useful pick for people who enjoy automotive stories and archival details.
Cartercar was an American automobile manufacturer founded by Byron J. Carter in Jackson, Michigan, in 1905. After leaving the Jackson Automobile Company over a disagreement about transmissions, Carter formed the Motorcar Company. The business moved to Detroit by the end of 1905 to be closer to financing. In 1907 it became the Cartercar Company and relocated to Pontiac, where it merged with makers of the Pontiac High wheeler. Cartercar became known for its friction-drive transmission, which allowed a continuous choice of ratios rather than fixed gear positions. The company began with a flat-twin engine and later offered vertical four-cylinder engines. Production sales rose from 101 cars in 1906 to 264 in 1907 and 325 in 1908. General Motors acquired Cartercar on October 26, 1909. After GM leadership changed, the board discontinued the marque; its factory was assigned to Oakland production. Cartercar’s brief history connects an early American automaker, an unusual transmission, and a sequence of moves and corporate decisions during the brass era.
