GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Carry a piece of American retail history on your next journey. Linens 'n Things began in 1958 as a leased-linen department in New Jersey, then opened its first store in East Brunswick in 1970. The familiar home-goods name later grew into a national chain, weathered store closures in 2008, and returned online in 2009. This luggage tag celebrates the many chapters behind a brand remembered by shoppers across generations, from neighborhood department to enduring name in retail history.
Linens 'n Things began in November 1958, when Eugene Wallace Kalkin established a leased-linen department at New Jersey discount retailer Great Eastern Mills. Great Eastern Mills opened the first Linens 'n Things store in East Brunswick, New Jersey, in August 1970. After changes in corporate ownership and Daylin, Inc.'s 1975 bankruptcy, Kalkin bought seven locations and established an independent parent company. The chain had grown to 55 stores by 1983, when Melville Corporation acquired it. Following expansion under CEO Norman Axelrod, it became a public company in a 1996 spin-off as Melville reorganized into CVS Corporation. Apollo Global Management acquired the retailer for $1.3 billion in February 2006. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 2, 2008, and announced that October it would close its remaining stores in the United States and Canada. The store-closing sales ended in December 2008; the website's liquidation sale continued into February 2009. The brand returned as an online retailer in February 2009, later using its original domain, LNT.com. After a 2013 sale to Galaxy Brand Holdings, the rights were acquired by Retail Ecommerce Ventures in July 2020, and the website relaunched that November.
