Set your phone beside a conversation-starting piece of Chattanooga history with this Loveman's Foldable Mobile Phone Display Stand. Founded as a dry goods firm in 1875, Loveman's became the city's first department store and grew into a regional chain serving East Tennessee and North Georgia. From its downtown beginnings at Eighth and Market Streets to later stores at Eastgate, Walnut Square, and Hamilton Place, the company followed the changing map of local shopping. Its flagship building continues in mixed-use service, keeping the story present today.

Loveman's was a Chattanooga, Tennessee-based department-store chain serving East Tennessee and North Georgia. In 1875, brothers David Bernard Loveman and Herman Herschel Loveman arrived in Chattanooga from Atlanta and established D. B. Loveman and Bro., a dry goods business. Ismar Noa joined in 1877, when the firm became D. B. Loveman & Company. The partners purchased property at the southeast corner of Eighth and Market Streets in 1884, and construction began there in 1885 on what became Chattanooga's first department store. A fire destroyed the building on December 26, 1891; despite bankruptcy and severe disruption, the business continued and later recovered, employing 300 people by 1917. The chain expanded beyond its downtown flagship to Oak Ridge and Chattanooga-area locations, including East Ridge. It opened at Eastgate Mall in 1965, occupied a former JCPenney location at Highland Plaza in the early 1970s, anchored Walnut Square Mall in Dalton in 1980, and made its final expansion at Hamilton Place Mall in 1987. Burdened by considerable debt, the chain was bought by Proffitt's in 1988; Proffitt's was acquired by Belk in 2005. From 2001, the downtown flagship was converted to mixed use, with condominiums on upper floors. The building continued as mixed-use space in 2025.
