GhostCorp Apparel - resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.
Bring a little early motoring history to your next round with these SGV Company golf balls. SGV was a brief American luxury-car venture formed in 1911, built on Acme’s earlier work and associated with Lancia-based engineering. Its range moved from touring cars and limousines to roadsters, while the 1912 Model D marked a notable chapter in its short production story. From factory troubles in Reading to a planned continuation in Newark, SGV offers a distinctive subject for golfers who appreciate classic cars and the people who built them.
SGV was an American luxury automobile manufacturer active from 1911 to 1916. Its origins were in the Acme Motor Car Company: in May 1911, Acme sold its site and plant to J. H. Sternbergh, who then sold the company and leased its plant to a New York consortium. The business took the name SGV, formed from the initials of its owners Herbert M. Sternbergh, Robert E. Graham, and Fred Van Tine, all formerly associated with Acme. Van Tine managed the shop and designed the cars. Acme had made SGV models since 1910, using Lancia components and a design based on the Lancia Beta. The range included touring cars, limousines, roadsters, and other body styles; a 35-horsepower Model D appeared in December 1912. A steering-wheel-mounted electric gearshift brought an early recall and unfavorable publicity amid financial difficulties. In summer 1915, the factory in Reading, Pennsylvania, was auctioned. R. J. Metzler bought it and intended to continue production. In 1916, Metzler and partners moved the plant to Newark, New Jersey, where only one SGV was built. Metzler later joined a group that produced the Phianna, based on the SGV.
