Ultimate Electronics was a consumer electronics store chain incorporated in Delaware with principal offices in Thornton, Colorado. Its Colorado roots included Pearse Electronics, while earlier stores also operated as SoundTrack Colorado and Audio King in Minnesota, Iowa, and South Dakota. The company began a major expansion campaign in 2000 and had doubled its store count to 64 by 2004. Across its history, it opened 78 locations in 20 states, with its high point described as 64 stores in 14 states. After filing for bankruptcy in 2005, 32 stores were acquired at auction by Hollywood Video founder and then-CEO Mark Wattles; the remaining stores closed. The successor business was privately operated by Ultimate Acquisition Partners, L.P., a division of Wattles Capital Management. A Tigard, Oregon, store opened in November 2010 as the chain's only West Coast location. On January 27, 2011, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, later converted to Chapter 7 liquidation, ending operations that year.
