Big Bear

Ghost Corp Apparel — resurrecting iconic corporate ghosts.

Founded in Columbus, Ohio, in 1933, Big Bear grew into a familiar supermarket name across Ohio and West Virginia. The chain was an early retail innovator, introducing shopping carts, motorized checkout conveyor belts and even using an IBM mainframe back when “computerized grocery store” sounded like science fiction.

After decades of expansion, Big Bear was acquired by Penn Traffic in 1989. Competition intensified, debt piled up, shelves got thinner, and by 2004 the last Big Bear had officially left the woods.
