Delia's, Inc., styled dELiA*s, launched in 1993 as an apparel and accessories lifestyle brand founded by two Yale University graduates. It targeted girls and young women, using direct-mail catalogs, websites, and mall-based specialty stores; its approach also emphasized an understanding of Generation Y and the internet's role in brand identity. In 1997 Delia's acquired Gurl.com, and in 1999 it created iTurf, a teen-centered online subsidiary that included Gurl.com. Delia's was acquired by Alloy Inc. for $50 million in 2003, then spun off by Alloy in 2005. In January 2013, HRSH Acquisitions LLC bought Alloy Inc., then marketed as Alloy Apparel. Delia's filed for Chapter 11 protection in the Southern District of New York on December 5, 2014, announcing the liquidation of all 95 stores. Steve Russo of Fab/Starpoint acquired the brand in 2015 and reopened it online-only in August, though that effort was unsuccessful. Dolls Kill later licensed the name and relaunched Delia's as a sub-brand in November 2018.
