Theranos Inc. was an American privately held health technology company founded in 2003 by 19-year-old Stanford University undergraduate Elizabeth Holmes. Originally called Real-Time Cures, it adopted the name Theranos, combining “therapy” and “diagnosis.” Holmes used an education trust to start the business, which pursued lab-on-a-chip blood-testing technology intended to make testing cheaper and more accessible. Theranos moved to 1601 S. California Ave. in Palo Alto in June 2012 and later operated laboratories in Newark, California, and Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2013 it partnered with Walgreens for in-store testing, following a Safeway clinic investment in 2012. The company promoted its Edison analyzer and nanotainer blood-collection vessel. Reporting by The Wall Street Journal in October 2015 questioned its technology and testing practices. Regulatory actions, lawsuits, and lost partnerships followed. Theranos ended laboratory operations in 2017, announced its shutdown on September 4, 2018, and transferred patents to Fortress Investment Group later that month.

Care instructions
- Keep the burning candle within sight, and keep away from children and pets. Never burn the candle near flammable items. For best results, burn the candle for 3 - 4 hours in each lighting and trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting. Discontinue use with 1/2" of wax remaining.
